This is the process I make the wallet prototype. At first, this is the original wallet design of my partner, Ruby. It is a fully functional wallet, which can hold money, coins, photos, cards, keys, and passports. However, this wallet becomes too heavy to carry sometimes.
To reduce the weight and volume of the wallet, I suggest that keys and passports should be stored in other bags, because the main function of wallets is to contain money. Then, I think that the materials of wallets can also be changed. Generally, most wallets are made of canvas or leather. Nevertheless, canvas wallets are not waterproof. As for leather wallets, although they are durable and beautiful, they are too heavy and expensive for most people. Therefore, we decided to use a lightweight composite fabric, which is breathable, waterproof, wear-resistant, and cheap. In this case, this wallet will be very popular with young customers.
Through communication with Ruby. I have made the prototype of this wallet. It can hold cash, coins, a few cards, and a small photo. The bottom of the wallet has a certain width, which is convenient to put money in.
It is a pleasure for me to make prototypes, as I have to think quickly and extensively in a limited period of time. In addition, we also need to communicate with our partners well. As Liu(2017) pointed out that “prototyping enhances collaboration within your team members internal. It can improve efficiency largely”. Hence, in my opinion, making prototypes not only improve the ability to make designs but also improve teamwork ability.
